Spotify is a music streaming service that allows you to listen to music wherever you are via your computer, tablet or phone.There are plenty of resources, tools and methods to use music for language learning, but in this post, we’re going to focus on one tool in particular: Spotify. The free version plays adverts every 30 minutes or so and limits certain features such as downloading for offline listening and playing out of shuffle mode on a phone, which you get when you join on Premium.Every week on a Monday Spotify will create a new playlist of two hours of music based off what you've been recently listening to.Each week a new playlist will be made available composed of bands you've been listening to, as well as what other people with similar tastes have been playing.When Apple unveiled Apple Music at WWDC 2015 on 8 June, Spotify's CEO and founder Daniel Ek tweeted just two words: "Oh ok." The tweet has since been deleted, but it could well indicate that the company is mighty scared by Apple's venture into the music streaming market that Spotify has dominated for several years.On 10 June, just two days after Apple's unveiling of Apple Music, Spotify published a blog post to reveal that it now has 20 million paying subscribers, and 75 million active users in total, but that took almost seven years to achieve.Apple Music is automatically installed on every i Phone and i Pad with the i OS 8.4 update, so audience acquisition is not going to be the same tricky task it was for Spotify, so it has the potential to become an enormous threat immediately.See: i OS 9 release date & new feautures In response, Spotify has increased its free trial period to two months, because Apple Music is offering a three-month trial, a sure sign that the company is worried.
